Sibling Rivalry
Posted On 13/04/2008 20:03:12 by Shadowdance

I know with kids you will always get some kind of fighting etc but lately with my two I've been wondering what the heck is going on

Anyhow 99% of the time the girls get on wonderfully......they don't always play together but at the same time they do interact wel with each other MOST of the time.
Melanie is 'the mother' she likes to pretend to feed Ayla, and will try to hug her etc etc - HOWEVER - Ayla doesn't like this and squeals......OMG can she squeal lol
Melanie is a pushy little so and so and persists....to the point Ayla will bite her. This also happens when Melanie tries to take something off Ayla that she just doesnt want to give up. Now while I HATE biters I can also understand why Ayla does it because Melanie just won't quit....
So Ayla normally ends up with 5 min in her cot and Melanie seems to get away with things because by the time I get Ayla's mouth off her arm....she's already screaming

THEN - Melanie likes to get her own way. And when she doesn't......she headbutts things. It's not often but sometimes it's hard enough to make my eyes water. EG the other night I got them up...while I was changing Ayla, Melanie decided she wanted her bottle NOW !! Of course she had to wait so headbutted the cot and made herself cry... made me feel bad but I'm afraid she did it to herself so she got no sympathy AND she had to still wait for the bottle.

Has anyone been through either of these and if so.......what did you do ?

My son went through a stage when he headbutted things when he was mad or frustrated. He grew out of it pretty fast, after a couple of times he realised it wasnt worth it and now does "pretned-butt" where he pretends to hit his head but does it very gently (hehe im giggling while im writing this - he really is very cute!) and then wants the sympathy - which he of course doesnt get - hopefully he will grow out of that soon too!!! Little Rascal!

Hes an only child so got no ideas on sibling rivalry - all I can say is GOOD LUCK!
